Jean helped me buy my first home and I couldn't have done it without her. I knew I wanted to purchase a place, though I had no clear idea on what that would look like or where it would be... plus I had a smaller budget with a long list of wants. I'm not going to lie, the first time I saw the name "Soulful Abode" it was because they sold a house on my street for over $2 million. As a renter, this made me feel hopeless, like I'd never own a home in a neighborhood like the one I was renting in.

I checked out their IG and saw they worked with really cute properties. While I felt like they would understand what I was looking for, I wasn't really expecting much of a response from them since my budget was nowhere near $2 million. First in the buying experience- it's probably worth noting that we came to Jean with a very loose idea of what we were looking for. We cast a pretty wide net in terms of neighborhoods, price range, and even what type of a house we were looking for. I'm sure in many ways that made the job even harder than someone who came with an exact target list of what they wanted. When we started the process, we thought we wanted a fixer-upper at a certain price point where we could keep owning our condo and rent it out. Then as we looked at a lot of options, we realized we wanted a house that was already close to what we wanted/needed it to be, and we became open to the idea of selling our condo to be able to buy at a higher price range. All that to say, Jean was SO patient and flexible with our moving target as we figured out what felt like the right home and the right situation for us. She spent a lot of time going with us to see houses everywhere from Burbank to Sherman Oaks. In the end, we ended up getting our dream home in Studio City that we were initially accepted as a backup offer on (which we did because Jean said "you never know") and when the first buyers dropped out, we jumped into escrow. During escrow, there were some unexpected (but manageable) issues with the house that came up, but Jean was an expert in guiding us through the many inspections, negotiating for credit, and ultimately helping us make the right decision at every critical point.

Once we closed escrow for the house we bought, quickly came the pressure of selling our condo. We found that selling our home was actually a lot more of an emotional experience than we expected. It has been the first home my husband and I owned together as a couple, the first home we brought our baby home, the first home where we did major renovations and made it our dream home that we've now outgrown. My wife and I have been shopping for a home for two years with no luck. Outbid by low interest rates at some point, we went to a crazy amount of open houses and private showings by bigger companies, like Redfin and Zillow. Jean was an absolute pleasure to work with! My boyfriend and I are first time home buyers and did not have much of an idea in terms of what we were looking for or what was realistic in the crazy Los Angeles market.

We were warned by our parents and friends to be careful which real estate agents we chose as some don't have your best interest in mind as buyers- that was definitely not the case with Jean and Vanessa! Jean was our main point on contact while working with Soulful Abode but they were both very kind and made sure we understood every step of the process. Jean would make sure things were done properly and thoroughly (inspections and such) and was very transparent about the whole process.

Not to mention we were buying a house in a pretty turbulent time. We had actually went into escrow prior to closing on our current house but unfortunately had to pull out, due to the spike in interest rates that happened right as we went into escrow. After the stressful experience of our first escrow, we were discouraged and needed to take a short break. They were very understanding and gave us the space we needed to let things settle (we were even considering moving out of state because of what happened).

In the end, we decided to keep looking in Los Angeles and ended up switching to their lender recommendation which made for a much smoother process when we went into escrow a second time. We closed on a house (as of today!) in a cute neighborhood in San Gabriel!

My girlfriend & I recently had the pleasure of having Jean as our real estate agent to purchase our very first home: an Echo Park condo in an iconic mid-century modernist complex.
