Jean in LA

Jean recently helped my husband and I purchase our first home. We honestly didn't know at certain points if we would ever find (much less close on) a home that we absolutely adored, yet here we are. And it 100% could not have happened without Jean.

At first we didn't even know where or how to begin the process of buying a home but everyone told us just to start with finding a realtor that we really like. After a few phone calls with other realtors that left me feeling a little ick, I reached out to Jean after following her for a while on Instagram. We are so glad we did.

My husband and I work in the food industry which makes home viewings, meetings, even phone calls at times difficult to manage and as first time home buyers we were also naive and illiterate to the intricacies of the Los Angeles real estate market. We also have a small child which just makes everything more complicated. Yet Jean met us with so much grace and patience every step of the way. Jean was always there with an encouraging word, detailed explanations to even the smallest and most mundane questions and concerns, and sometimes even there to bring us back down to earth. There were two instances where Jean discouraged us from putting offers in on homes we really liked and, I kid you not, they both went for more than 500k over asking. She's not here to waste your time; she's here to find you a home. And once you find something, she's there helping you problem-solve, to see the big picture, and to make sure it's truly right.

The only downside to owning a home now is that our daughter (who just fell in love with Jean) asks constantly when we'll see her again. Although home buying can be stressful, Jean somehow also made it an exciting and fun time in our lives and for all of this we are truly grateful.

Jean helped me buy my first home and I couldn't have done it without her. I knew I wanted to purchase a place, though I had no clear idea on what that would look like or where it would be... plus I had a smaller budget with a long list of wants. I'm not going to lie, the first time I saw the name "Soulful Abode" it was because they sold a house on my street for over $2 million. As a renter, this made me feel hopeless, like I'd never own a home in a neighborhood like the one I was renting in.

I checked out their IG and saw they worked with really cute properties. While I felt like they would understand what I was looking for, I wasn't really expecting much of a response from them since my budget was nowhere near $2 million. I started communication with Jean long before we ever started looking at homes, and she was patient, kind, and didn't make me feel like my small budget was too small.

When we started looking, I gave her my "must-have" checklist. That checklist was actually a dream checklist, and when I asked her if I was being realistic, she would say, "It can happen." Two bedrooms, over 1000 sq ft, lots of natural light, and in a safe, walkable neighborhood. Well, she found it on the first try. We looked at some other homes but she nailed it the first time.

Since I was buying the home with my family, there were other opinions that wouldn't budge when it came to negotiations, which definitely made Jean's job more challenging. Still, she handled it with such grace and professionalism. At the end of the day, she worked with the seller to get us my dream home for the price we wanted.

Buying a home is a very personal journey and it can be pretty anxiety-inducing to put your life savings into one life-changing purchase, but Jean has such a calmness to her that she made me feel like everything would be ok. I felt like I made a friend in this process, and was kind of sad when she handed me the keys, as I really enjoyed hanging out with her :)
